These days will allow you to experience everything. The way to the interior with its whitewashed houses and starry sky reminds us that the cities are way behind us. Here one finds peace and endless horizons. This is Alentejo.
Arraiolos reminds us of a postcard. Besides its prominente castle, due to its unusual circular architecture, tapestry is what makes this village so noteworthy. The famous mats from Arraiolos differ from the rest due to their quality and originality and they are one of the most illustrious cultural elements from Portugal.
As we go along the slaty mountainsides from Serra D’Ossa, having by our side the elegance of the Évoramonte castle, the white from the houses insists in merging with the marble tones until we come close to the famous triangle made by the genuine villages of Estremoz, Borba and Vila Viçosa. Reaching this point is a privilegie and it is a perfect experience. Each step is accompanied by the rythm of History and each day is a lesson to remember. Many civilisations left an inestimable bequest throughout the centuries and transformed each street into an open-air museum.
From Elvas you can sight Spain but why would we want to leave Portugal? Classified as UNESCO heritage, Elvas offers us unique and memorable moments connected to a striking cultural heritage. The varied and rich gastronomy of this council can also be easily found in its traditional restaurants where each dish will tell you a new history. Near Elvas you find Campo Maior, a small portuguese village, where you may feel a strong smell of coffee, the greatest industry in that region and an imperative stopping point in our Tour.
On the way to the North, your feeling of wonder will grow! Arriving in the mountains of São Mamede you will find Castelo de Vide and Marvão, two mandatory places. Castelo de Vide surprises any visitor due to the preservation of its medieval nature. In this village, the connection to the Jewish community has centuries and is intentionally exteriorised in a marked way, providing encounters with a Past that resits persistently to the dictatorship of time. As for Marvão, a fortified village, a visit will be worth of your time due to the extraordinary mountainous landscape around 860m high. From there you have a general view or so it seems since there is a feeling that the scenery has an endless dimension.
Trying out the palate from Alentejo will be a more complete experience when we visit the picturesque alentejan village Nisa, where the sheep’s cheese are recognised as one of the most appreciated. But there is a lot more to know. You can’t miss the historical heritage from Alto Alentejo where a set of megalithic monuments that express well the millenarian culture of the area of Portugal.
These are some of the significant point in our Tour, but you should see it with your own eyes. This is the reason why we want to invite you to be the main character of this film in an unforgettable region. Make sure you book now your cultural Tour in Alto Alentejo and discover this portuguese region!
